When it comes to DVD-R discs, you can never go wrong with the Maxell 16x DVD-R Discs. These discs are perfect for storing and backing up your precious data, videos, and photos. With a storage capacity of 4.7GB, these discs can hold up to two hours of high-definition video or more than 120 minutes of standard definition video. The Maxell 16x DVD-R Discs are also compatible with most DVD players and DVD-ROM drives, so you can be sure that you can access your data whenever you need it.
Verbatim DVD+R DL discs
When it comes to DVD media, Verbatim has always been a reliable and dependable brand. That’s why I was surprised to see such poor reviews for their DVD+R DL discs. I decided to try a couple of them out for myself and see if they lived up to the hype.
The packaging for these discs is pretty standard fare. They come in a slimline jewel case with no frills or extras. The discs themselves have a simple white label with the Verbatim logo and product information.
I tested the discs on two different burners, a Pioneer DVR-215 and a Samsung SH-S223F. Both drives had no problem Recognizing the discs or burning data to them. I used ImgBurn to create an ISO image of a Windows 10 installation disc and burned it at the maximum speed supported by the drives (8x for the Pioneer, 12x for the Samsung).
The burns were successful and the resulting discs were readable in both drives. So far, so good.
However, when I tried to read the discs in my Xbox One S, only the Pioneer-burned disc was readable. The Samsung-burned disc was not recognized at all. This is a bit of a dealbreaker for me, as I primarily use these types of discs for backing up my game collection.
So while the Verbatim DVD+R DL discs may work fine for data storage and backup, they are not compatible with the Xbox One S Blu-ray drive. Proceed with caution if you plan on using them for that purpose.

The Sony BD-RE XL 100GB 4X is a great product. The image quality is fantastic, and the playback is smooth. The only issue I have with it is that it does not come with a case or sleeve, so I have to be careful not to damage the disc. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

The discs have a nice glossy finish and are very well-made. I’ve never had any issues with them getting stuck in my drive or anything like that.

The print quality is very good. I use an Epson R800 printer and the ink adheres well to the Taiyo Yuden surface.
I’ve used other brands of DVD-R discs and have had mixed results. Some brands work well, while others cause my burner to produce coasters more often than not. With Taiyo Yuden, I’ve yet to have a single coaster. That’s a pretty good track record in my book.
The one downside to these discs is that they don’t seem to be available in stores very often. I usually have to order them online. But that’s a small price to pay for such high quality DVD-R discs.
