Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z390 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard

Gigabyte’s Z390 Aorus Master is a well-built ATX motherboard for Intel’s “9th Generation” (Coffee Lake-S) processors. It offers plenty of features, good performance, and solid overclocking potential.

The motherboard has four DDR4 DIMM slots that support up to 64GB of RAM at speeds of up to 4266MHz (when overclocked). There are also three PCI Express x16 slots (two of which are steel-reinforced), six SATA III ports, two M.2 slots, USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A and Type-C ports, and Intel Gigabit LAN.

On the rear panel, there are also eight USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, and audio jacks powered by Realtek’s ALC1220 codec. Overall, the Z390 Aorus Master is a feature-rich motherboard that should appeal to gamers and enthusiasts alike.

We tested the Z390 Aorus Master with an Intel Core i7-8700K CPU and 16GB of DDR4-3200 memory. With the CPU overclocked to 4.8GHz and the memory running at its XMP profile speed of 3200MHz, we were able to achieve a score of 1809 in Cinebench R15’s multi-threaded test. This is a solid result and puts the Z390 Aorus Master on par with other Z390 motherboards we’ve tested.

In our gaming tests, the Z390 Aorus Master performed well, averaging 144fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080p with the settings maxed out. This is a few frames higher than what we saw from Asus’ ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming and MSI’s MEG Z390 Ace, both of which are also equipped with Intel’s top-end Core i7-8700K CPU.

We also ran our game benchmarks at 1440p, and here the Z390 Aorus Master averaged 89fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and 71fps in Total War: Warhammer II. Both results are again on par with the competition.

When it comes to overclocking, the Z390 Aorus Master offers plenty of options and flexibility. The CPU can be overclocked using Gigabyte’s EasyTune software or by manually adjusting the BIOS settings. We were able to get our Core i7-8700K CPU stable at 5GHz with no issues. The memory overclocking was a bit more challenging as we had to increase the voltage to 1.35v to get our kit (G.Skill TridentZ RGB DDR4-3200) stable at its rated speed of 3200MHz.

Overall, the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master is a great option for anyone looking for a feature-rich ATX motherboard for a Coffee Lake-S CPU. It offers good performance, solid overclocking potential, and a healthy selection of ports and expansion slots.
